Drug and Alcohol Team
Drug and alcohol team are in most areas in the UK. A lot have now closed down due to cut backs, but you should have no problem assessing one. It is government based so you will find your local one easier on Google. .
Do they work
Grossly underfunded. I have spoken to 1000’s of clients over the years and I can confidently say they are not highly thought of. But they are somewhere for addicts to go to, if they have no other option. This is the last resort if no other options are available to you. They are not as successful as all the other options open to you. Personally I would not recommend them. Why do I say this. I have spoken to so many of the staff form these centres over the years. I can only speak through my own experiences, but they all come across totally ignorant to how addiction is treated and how it works. Their understanding of clients is very limited. If you need any help with addiction, call me Tel: 07811 606 606
Where can I find a drug and alcohol team
DAAT stands for “Drug And Alcohol Team”. Your best option is to look on Google. While searching you may find some you find on Google will sadly closed down due to cutbacks. But keep scrolling through. You will find one to too far away from you.
Will they detox me
From speaking to staff at a lot of drug and alcohol teams. They have enough money to fund 4 out of every 100 clients who come through their door. That is a 4% chance of being detoxed with a 2% success rate. So furthermore, if you are luck enough to get a detox, then you will need to be one of the two people out of a hundred who it works for. So your chances are very slim.
How do I get a detox
If you are drinking a lot, you will need to cut right down before you have any chance of a detox. Furthermore the minimum amount of time from joining a DAAT to when you get a detox is 9 months. This way, they can see the people who are really trying to give up, and the people who are not that bothered. If you want a private affordable detox, you can come into our rehab centres tomorrow. Drug and alcohol team Key worker
You will get a key worker when you join. A key worker is the person you report too. The one who monitors your process etc. This is the person you have all your contact with in regards of a detox etc.
Your best chance
Keep in control of your conversation with your key worker. If they say you can have a detox, ask “When?” If they say when you have reduced you intake, ask “to how much” In your conversation with your key worker, keep putting the ball back in their court. A lot of key workers will just tell you what you want to hear. So get on top of the conversation. These people are easy to deal with it you keep on top. Call me on Tel: 07811 606 606 for more advice.
